Kara Rane is an artist, an entrepreneur, an eco-lover and a healer.  She studied Biology and Environmental Science at the University of California at Santa Barbara.  A trip with her grandpa through native Scandinavian countries; Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and specifically the island of  Alnön, inspired an academic revelation.  Her final year at UCSB she was accepted and graduated from the Art Studio Honors Program.
Her education continued in San Francisco, California, where she studied classical painting and sculpture, yoga and martial arts.  She traveled the United States, and abroad to Nepal and Thailand.  Kara Rane had solo and group art shows in galleries, boutiques and artist collectives.
New York City became an increasing interest and in 2003 she was living in Brooklyn, NY.  In the competitive NYC art world she fulfilled the demands of a corporate art market at Novo Studios Inc., Manhattan.  She also began her own community art space, “Project Flower Shop” in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, NY.  Hosting art events, offering “donation only” yoga and showcasing artists’ art works, "Project Flower Shop" helped re-define this neighborhood from “bad” to “hip”.
Kara Rane was owner of an established business in Esperanza, Vieques Island in 2007-2009.  An eatery on the Caribbean beach, a fresh food and seafood grill, became a favorite for locals and tourists alike.  She designed the popular three-dimensional mural which identified this landmark destination.  Painting outdoors, holding free art sessions with children, creating unique souvenirs and offering grilled meals ; art and food *created fresh daily*.
The “Made in Vieques” collection, the artists newest series, reflects the life and landscape of this dynamic island, the paradox of paradise, and the discovery of our self.
